Exlabesa and Metrovacesa team up to decarbonise the building industry
  • Both companies have signed an agreement which will allow Metrovacesa’s real estate developments to use Exlabesa windows made of RE-local 100, Exlabesa’s 100% post-consumer recycled aluminium.
  • This partnership strengthens their leadership on sustainability, contributing directly to decarbonise the building and construction sector.

Exlabesa, leading brand specialised in the development and production of windows, doors, and façade systems, has reached an agreement with Metrovacesa, one of the biggest real estate developers in Spain managing an ongoing portfolio that exceeds 150 properties, aiming to reduce the general carbon footprint of their activity.

This deal will allow Metrovacesa developments to use Exlabesa windows & doors made of RE-local 100, Exlabesa’s 100% post-consumer recycled aluminium produced at its in-house recycling plants. Re-local 100 production process is fully traceable, and it is verified by an independent third party (Bureau Veritas). The use of 100% postconsumer scrap allows Exlabesa to cut down its emissions by 95% compared to the industry average contributing massively to reach carbon neutrality goals.

Thanks to this partnership, Metrovacesa keeps investing in a more sustainable building industry by using circular and low carbon products, such as Exlabesa windows & doors, in their real estate projects which allows them to reduce significantly their CO2 emissions thus meeting their ambitious goals defined in their General Sustainability Strategy.

David Sierra Llunch, Director of Projects and Sustainability at Metrovacesa, states:

“At Metrovacesa, we firmly believe that cooperation with industry-leading companies is the key to achieve our sustainability goals. Exlabesa is clearly a benchmark in producing low carbon aluminium systems, and their support will significantly help us to reduce our CO2 footprint.”

Carlos Negreira, Director of the Building Systems Division at Exlabesa, adds:

“This deal will allow Metrovacesa to use limitless Exlabesa windows & doors made of 100% postconsumer recycled aluminium Re-local in their projects. Metrovacesa´s determination to use circular products, together with Exlabesa´s unique recycling capabilities position both companies as key agents to drive the building industry towards its decarbonisation.”

Decarbonising the building industry

Exlabesa’s RE-local 100 product range features a near zero carbon footprint of only 0.5 kgCO2eq/kg Al., which it means a 95% CO2 emissions reduction compared to the primary aluminium production average.

Exlabesa’s annual recycled production capacity, reaches 80 000 tons of low carbon aluminium, this equals to the aluminium needed to supply more than 660 000 average homes—almost six times the number of new construction projects approved in Spain per year.

Those unique recycling capabilities allow Exlabesa to supply low carbon products to any building project requiring for cutting down drastically its CO2 emissions; positioning the company as a key agent to drive the building industry to its carbon neutrality.

Exlabesa systems range have been also awarded with Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) which facilitate its customers and partners to obtain more easily LEED, BREAM or VERDE sustainability certifications.
