Exlabesa launches a new extrusion line at its new factory in Portugal
  • Exlabesa increases its extrusion capacity with a new 2 800 tn line in the recently built facilities in Coimbra, Portugal.
  • This investment is part of the consolidation of Exlabesa’s strategic position not only in this area, but also in the Southern European market.

This new high-capacity extrusion line can extrude all 6000 series alloys (6005, 6060, 6061, 6063, 6082, 6101 and 6106) in billets of up to 8 inches. This state-of-the-art machinery manufactured by SMS Group, a world leader in this type of technology, complements the existing press of the same manufacture and identical capacities, started up at the same time as the opening of the factory in 2022. In addition to the extrusion of complex, high-quality profiles, it also stands out for the optimisation of industrial processes, significantly improving the efficiency of energy resources.

With this second line, Exlabesa has increased its extrusion capacity in Portugal by more than 16 000 tn/year, mainly for the manufacture of profiles for the construction, infrastructure and electrical sectors.

The location of these new facilities in Coimbra, built in 2022 and operational since the second half of last year, results in a strategic position not only for the Portuguese market (it is less than two hours from the main Portuguese cities: Porto and Lisbon) but also for the Spanish market and, in general, for the whole of southern Europe thanks to Exlabesa’s extensive logistics network.

In addition to the extrusion lines, this new production centre has a vertical coating line with a capacity to process profiles up to 7 200 mm.

With this new factory, and the recently incorporated one in France, Exlabesa’s annual extrusion capacity exceeds 238,000 tn, with a total of 10 production centres located in Spain, UK, Germany, Poland, USA, France and Portugal , and 29 extrusion presses. These capacities consolidate Exlabesa as a global leader, proving its commitment to incorporating the latest technology, offering its customers high value bespoke industrial components with a nearby and personalised service anywhere in the world.
